MSc Web Technology

Information and Syllabus

This new MSc in Web Technology is an intensive high-level course which covers the current and emerging technologies that are and will be used to support web-based software systems. There is the opportunity to study markup languages such as XML, XSL, and RDF; their applications in e-business and web services; and related topics such as security, cryptography, intelligent agents, interaction design, and distributed computing systems, taught by leading experts in these areas.

Since the inception of the web changed the world in the 1990s, there have been two major developments:

  1. Social and collaborative applications, as exemplified by social tagging, media sharing, blogging and wikis.
  2. The semantic web, which adds a level of understanding enabling computers to reason about the information and knowledge on the web.

These recent developments are covered in this MSc through a double unit in Semantic Web Technologies; through the use of web technology in our teaching itself; and by encouraging students to develop their own social and collaborative web sites.
