Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Southampton has retained its number 1 position in the UK's Guardian University Guide for 2017.

Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) at the University consistently performs well in these ratings; for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, this is the 7th consecutive year in the top 5 – and 6th out of the last 8 years in 1st position. Computer Science has also performed well taking 10th position, the 11th consecutive year in which Southampton has featured in the top 10.

Professor Paul Lewin, Head of ECS says: “These are fantastic results for the department and reflect very well on the commitment from our staff in providing innovative research-led teaching and outstanding employability support. Students considering these subjects at Southampton can have confidence that they will be very much in demand by employers for their breadth of knowledge and technical understanding.”

The Guardian tables are based on data from the UK’s National Student Survey and Higher Education Statistics Agency, covering teaching quality and feedback, spending per student, staff/student ratios, job prospects, a “value added” criterion (comparing students’ degree results with entry qualifications), and entry scores.

University of Southampton Open Days take place this year on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 July and on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 September. ECS will be running a programme of drop-in sessions, careers talks, lectures in a range of disciplines and tours of our exceptional facilities as well as opportunities to meet our academic staff and students. Bookings for the Open Days are now open through the University website.
