I left to avoid the draft, and spent about 10 years in business in the UK working as a programmer, project leader, and IT manager. I re-entered academia in 1992 as a lecturer in IT subjects. I currently lecture on the "IT in Organisations" degree programme, jointly presenting introductory and advanced modules on eLearning and Technology Enhanced Learning. My book (co-authored with Veronica Gale) "Principles of e-Learning Systems Engineering" (Chandos, 2008) integrates my business-oriented practical experience of Information Systems development with Multimedia and Computer Aided Instruction development. I have completed two textbooks dealing with Information Technology at Advanced GNVQ level. The first comprises the second edition of a student textbook (de Watteville & Gilbert, 2000) which, in its first edition, apparently was the UK's top seller in its sector according to its publisher, Heinemann. The second is a Tutor Resource File (Gilbert & de Watteville, 2000) to accompany the student textbook, aimed at supporting the tutors who teach the Advanced GNVQ IT programme. My extra-mural interests include radio-controlled racing yachts. I am collaborating with Graham Bantock on a significant text, provisionally titled "Radio Sailing: Design, Build, Race". Graham is the pre-eminent world authority on such craft, and the text is intended to define the sport and its background theory for the next decade. I have been selected to the Great Britain team at recent World and Continental championships in the IOM and "A" classes.
