Markus Luczak-Roesch is a Senior Research Fellow at the Web and Internet Science Group (WAIS) at the University of SouthamptonElectronics and Computer Science (ECS). His research is focused on macro- and micro-scale information architectures. This encompasses information systems, their users, and the data which is either managed for any particular application purpose or results from various forms of interactions.

From 2008 to 2013 Markus worked as a Lecturer at the Freie Universität Berlin from which he holds a doctoral degree (Dr. rer. nat.) for his work on usage analysis in the context of Linked Data repositories. As a member of the networked information systems workgroup, which is part of the institute for Computer Science, he also researched on ontology life cycle management, user interfaces for semantically enriched content authoring, as well as empirical studies on ontology and data engineering.

Markus teaching activities cover modern Web technologies, data science, professional development as well as innovation and entrepreneurship.

Between 2008 and 2012 he managed the lumano – intelligent systems GbR as one of the founders. lumano mediated between research projects, companies and investors, with the aim of bringing projects to market readiness by the acquisition of any missing resources.

In July 2014 Markus Luczak-Roesch was part of an international expert panel discussing Big Data technologies and co-authored the resulting foresight review commissioned by the Lloyd’s Register Foundation.

Other Professional Activities

Markus is co-chair of the scientific workshop on usage analysis in the context of the Web of Data (USEWOD), which has been held five times since 2011 co-located with the WWW and most-recently the ESWC conferences. The most significant contribution of the workshop is the creation and provisioning of the USEWOD reference research data set for reproducible research in log file analysis of Linked Data endpoints. The data set is widely used and primary source of research that has been published across the boundaries of the workshop at international conferences.
