A dynamic environment - Research at the leading edge
ECS-Electronics and Computer Science is the leading university department of its kind in the UK, with an international reputation for world-leading research across computer science, electronics, and electrical engineering. Research takes place in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment, drawing on outstanding facilities. With over 550 researchers from many different subject backgrounds, the research culture in ECS is fast-changing and dynamic. Agent technologies, digital libraries, environmental modelling, e-Science, high voltage engineering, machine learning, spintronics, technology-enhanced learning and Web Science are just some of the technologies in which ECS research has been fundamentally transformative in recent years. Full information about all our research projects is available on our research group pages. ECS also incorporates two Doctoral Training Centres – in Web Science, and Complex Systems Simulation. Nigel Shadbolt speaks to Wired about the potential for Open DataIn a major interview in this month’s Wired magazine, Professor Nigel Shadbolt outlines the future plans and potential value of the new Open Data Institute (ODI) which will open in Shoreditch, London, later this year.
