Description
Aims
- To introduce students to engineering drawing using Computer Aided Drafting software AutoCAD 14.
- To give an appreciation of potential of CAD.
Objectives
The student will be able to:
- use industrial CAD software
- have an appreciation of CAD/CAM and CNC machining
- know the basics of engineering drawing and sketching
- have some knowledge of manufacturing techniques and metrology
Learning Outcomes
Topics Covered
- Drawing
- Plans and elevations; general assembly drawings; isometric drawing; sectioning; projection; perspective; limits and fits; simple sketching.
- Introduction to computer drafting
- Hands-on use of AutoCAD 14 drafting package.
- Industrial processes in relation to drafting
- Seminar (with video) on manufacturing techniques; seminar on metrology; standard components; British Standards, etc.
- CAD exercises
- Exercises designed to give appreciation of the potential of CAD with emphasis on interpretation, involving manipulation/modification rather than drawing from scratch.
- Demonstration of advanced CAD applications
- 3-D graphics; industrial case studies of CAD/CAM applications.
