Description

Aims

  • To introduce students to engineering drawing using Computer Aided Drafting software AutoCAD 14.
  • To give an appreciation of potential of CAD.

Objectives

The student will be able to:

  • use industrial CAD software
  • have an appreciation of CAD/CAM and CNC machining
  • know the basics of engineering drawing and sketching
  • have some knowledge of manufacturing techniques and metrology

Learning Outcomes

Topics Covered

  • Drawing
    • Plans and elevations; general assembly drawings; isometric drawing; sectioning; projection; perspective; limits and fits; simple sketching.
  • Introduction to computer drafting
    • Hands-on use of AutoCAD 14 drafting package.
  • Industrial processes in relation to drafting
    • Seminar (with video) on manufacturing techniques; seminar on metrology; standard components; British Standards, etc.
  • CAD exercises
    • Exercises designed to give appreciation of the potential of CAD with emphasis on interpretation, involving manipulation/modification rather than drawing from scratch.
  • Demonstration of advanced CAD applications
    • 3-D graphics; industrial case studies of CAD/CAM applications.
