The University of Southampton

Wen Yee (Wendy) Tey MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2017

"I chose to come and study at the University of Southampton because it is one of the best universities in the UK for engineering and ECS is top in the UK for quality and volume of their research in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

I would really recommend Southampton as a great place to study - you get to meet lots of people from all over the world and the quality of the staff and facilities is excellent

Contrasting environments

"I have completed part of my studies at University of Southampton Malaysia so it has been very exciting to have the opportunity to experience two totally different learning environments.

"The facilities at Southampton are very well equipped and up-to-date. There is a spacious, state-of-the-art computer lab for students to complete assignments or discuss project with friends and the library has a wide range of resources is also a really good place for students to do revision or study for exams.

Incredibly rewarding

"My studies at Southampton have been so rewarding; my third year individual project is on solar cell modelling and I have really enjoyed the opportunity of meeting with people who have been researching solar cells for years. I also attended a workshop about solar cell simulation conducted by a PhD student, and it helped me learn about the basic solar cell fabrication flow and how to perform the simulation on a solar cell model.

Different backgrounds

"One of the best experiences while studying here is meeting with people with different backgrounds from all over the world. I’ve also had lots of opportunities to try out something new, so now I am doing a pottery class to help develop my patience and creativity, which I think are important skills to have as an engineer.
