Richard Poynder has done another of his incisive and revealing
interviews, this time with Tony Hey, corporate vice president for
technical computing at Microsoft. First an active theoretical particle
physicist, then, successively, head of parallel computing research,
head of the School of Electronics and Computer Science, and Dean of
Engineering at University of Southampton, Tony went on to head the UK's
e-ecience programme before moving to Microsoft. The author of many
articles and several books, including one on Richard Feynman and
computation, Tony is also "passionate about Open Access." Read the
interview, and see how a researcher can manage to maintain his
commitment, excitement and loyalty to research no matter what hat he is
wearing. (Among his lesser credits, Tony Hey also saved my academic
career.)
