The University of Southampton

BB90 BEng Biomedical Electronic Engineering (3 Years)

In this three year BEng degree in Biomedical Electronic Engineering, you will explore the application of state of the art electronic engineering theory and practice to develop new medical and healthcare technologies.

3rd= in the UK for career prospects in Electronic and Electrical Engineering (Guardian University Guide 2020)

Introducing your degree

Innovative digital health solutions are required to address the growing pressure on healthcare providers created by an ageing population and an increase in chronic disease.

This degree will train engineers to understand the underlying principles of electronics and biomedicine to develop new healthcare technologies such as home monitoring and intelligent diagnostics and treatment.

Overview

This three-year programme will provide you with a detailed knowledge of electronics and biomedicine, together with the ability to apply engineering principles to medicine and healthcare. Excellent experimental facilities in both Electronics and Life Sciences laboratories will develop your practical skills, including designing a health and wellness monitoring platform. An individual project based on a real-life application will expose you to the challenges of developing new biomedical electronic systems.

Programme Structure

Students undertake three years of study. Each year there are compulsory modules. However, the degree has been designed to maximise student choice by allowing you to tailor the degree structure to suit your own interests. In the first two years you will cover the fundamental theory, practice and skills essential to a chartered engineer. In your third year, you can choose areas that reflect your personal interests and work on an individual project.

To Apply

All undergraduate applications for Electronics and Computer Science should bemade online through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). Find out how to apply and get further details about UCAS' website, phone and contact details.
