My name is Javier. I am originally from Mexico City where I worked for several transnational companies and television studios for over ten years. I specialise in marketing, multimedia and visual comunication in several director roles such as Art & Design director for ZF Friedrichshafen Mexico. I have also worked for over 10+ years providing interactive and design consultancy for cultural heritage institutions and research projects. When I arrived in the UK in 2006, I became a teacher for Southampton Solent University and Southampton Unversity. I taught design, multimedia and 3D CAD technologies among others.

I am interestd in cultural heritage. For this rason my research has allways been related to culture and pop culture. I spent 4 years independently researching several aspects of Mexican Wrestling and its relation with modern society in Mexico. This included Fim Studies, Anthropology, Marketing, Design and Sociology among others. Another project that I worked with was in the use of 3D printing technologies to develop experimental architectural visualisations for archaeologist and museums.

I am currently part of the Web Science Institute and part of the Web Science DTC funded by EPSRC.

Research interests

I am currently working with Tangible User Interfaces (TUI). Moreover, I investigate how can people have a better engagement with digital cultural heritage, especially online. My research includes the factor of distributing TUIs on the Web. By allowing people to download and buid their TUIs from home to engage with cultural heritage institutions, I believe that learnability and engagement can be enhanced.
