The University of Southampton

ECS-Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) is the leading university department of its kind in the UK, with an international reputation for world-leading research across computer science, electronics, and electrical engineering.

ECS is research-led, but also strives for excellence in teaching and in enterprise. Our main research strengths are our interdisciplinary and collaborative culture, which means that research expertise is wide-ranging, both in terms of the subject disciplines we cover, but also in terms of covering the spectrum from theoretical foundations through to the deployment of real-world applications.

There are around 540 researchers in ECS, making it one of the UK’s most exciting and successful academic research environments. Our research income is around £12M annually and our current research portfolio is worth about £42M.

All our researchers are based in one of our eight research groups. You can find out more about our research projects and themes on our Research pages
