"Then I spend the rest of the day testing radios. The tests I perform depend on which project I’m working on, but typically we always do UI walkthroughs, regression testing and audio decode testing on new software builds. If there is new hardware to test, then I use the ovens to perform Design Verification Testing . During the week there are various project meetings, where the people who have been working on the project discuss progress and any defects that have been found. We also have weekly team meetings to bring everyone up to date on what people have been working on and on the progress of all the projects. I most enjoy trying out the new technology and it’s very satisfying to know that you’ve contributed to a product that’s being sold worldwide.

"The most challenging aspect of the work so far is having to reproduce defects in the radios. This is pretty difficult as not all defects are produced in a set way. Finding the methods for reproduction is very important as it allows the software engineers to pinpoint and fix the problem. Another challenge I found was actually getting into the routine of working full-time. This is the first job I’ve had which is nine to five (thirty), five days a week, for twelve weeks. I’m looking forward to working on some of the new projects coming through this summer. And it’ll be exciting to see the products on which I’ve been working, on the shelves in shops.

"The environment in the office is very relaxed – there’s one guy who even comes in wearing flip-flops! All the people here are very friendly and helpful, and we always have a laugh during the day, though of course everyone works hard too. There’s a sports and social club at Imagination which organizes socials such as barbeques and nights out at the pub. These events are always a good way of meeting people who work in different parts of the company.

"Everyone should definitely experience the working environment before leaving university. Being a summer intern at Imagination Technologies has been a really good opportunity to see how a product goes through the different stages of production and to experience working in a team environment".
