I decided to come to Southampton as it was highly ranked in technology subjects. I also learned from friends who were already here about the high level of teaching and the interesting modules they have done. I also liked Southampton because it is not as crowded as London, and my friends told me it is an amazing city for students, with lots of different activities to try out.
Studying here is amazing. It’s like one of the campuses that you see in movies. It’s mesmerizing how big everything else and how many people are around you.
How have you found studying here?
The atmosphere around campus is incredible. As mentioned before, it’s almost like being in a movie. The campus is alive, with a lot of activities happening during the week. It’s a lively, youthful environment with open-minded people that you can easily connect with. The whole campus is packed with places you can go to relax or have lunch. If you don’t feel like being surrounded by a lot of people sometimes, there are parks in the campus that are not crowded and one can always go to.
The student community is really big at this university. We have over 200 societies you can be part of, which is one of the largest student communities in the United Kingdom. Any hobby one has, there is 100% a society for it already. An example just to illustrate the level of creativity of people around here is for example the Quidditch society. People actually come around and play Quidditch and also compete in a local league for this sport.
How have you found the facilities?
The sports facilities are incredible here, but a membership is required for most of them. You are able to play basketball, tennis, table tennis, badminton, futsal, rugby, pretty much any sport you can think of is available at the university.
The library itself is really well packed with a lot of available books to rent and study from. The environment in the library is really quite, which is amazing when you need to concentrate on what you are doing. One thing that I enjoyed a lot was the presence of self-adjustable desk. You are able to raise as high as you want, which comes in handy when you feel you’ve sit too much on the chair and want to stand up for a bit, but still continue your study.
