Coming to Southampton has been the best choice I could have made and it has made me grow in a lot of ways: not only have I learnt a lot about software and become a valuable engineer, but I have also gained experience working on my own and as part of a team.
One of my favourite pieces of work was my third year individual project. You get a huge sense of accomplishment at the end, after getting to oversee all the technical and management aspects over such a long-term.
I had the opportunity to study with some of the smartest minds and most passionate computer scientists in their field, and I am so proud to be a Southampton alumna!
The University provides one of the best engineering degrees in the UK, especially electronics, which is rated as best in the country.
Every day of research is a world-first, I am witnessing confidential engineering work on a daily basis.
The world class facilities, combined with lecturers whose industry background gives them a unique perspective on how to apply taught knowledge in the real world, sets up graduates for the most demanding of jobs.
The workload of my course is challenging but rewarding. We covered so much material in the first year - I am amazed when I look back and reflect on how much I have accomplished!
I would love to see the gender gap in engineering shift as more girls consider maths and physics as a rewarding and exciting career prospect.
The department is really well equipped and the computer labs are continuously updated to keep them cutting edge.
We have one of the premier cleanrooms in Europe, which enables me to carry out cutting-edge experiments and generate novel results. We also have world-leading researchers and academics to guide the way for students and an international reputation.

The facilities in the Electrical Engineering Department are world class and I had a dedicated work-space in the lab for my projects. The staff are always very helpful if you need a special component or get stuck on something.
I would really recommend Southampton as a great place to study - you get to meet lots of people from all over the world and the quality of the staff and facilities is excellent.

I would advise people thinking about coming here not to be nervous – get stuck in and make the most of your time. There is so much support and, although you may not realise it, everyone has the same challenges to face. That’s what pushes you together.
Graduate employers are keen to employ ECS students because it has a worldwide reputation for high calibre students that get a good mix of practical, design and project work.
My supervisors both on my BEng and my PhD were excellent in their fields and this raises the expectations from their students. If you are choosing Computer Science I wouldn’t know a better place to study than Southampton.
I have thoroughly enjoyed studying, researching and working here and would encourage other potential students to consider the University. A degree from Southampton is a great start to a career.

The ECS Careers Hub provided me with sector specific information and I was able to study teaching and management modules which taught me invaluable skills that have supported me in my early career.
At Southampton they have Electronics and Computer Science combined whereas usually they are separate elsewhere. This means they can draw on features from both areas. It puts a different spin on the whole thing, which I was really impressed by.
I have found the teaching and facilities at Southampton very good and everyone has a very positive attitude. It is great that I could directly access the second year of the course rather than having to redo Year One studies.
I have been able to attend conferences worldwide, and have been involved in numerous industry-sponsored competitions, events and talks.
The coursework can be very challenging but tackles real world problems which gives us an excellent insight into life beyond university.

The knowledge I acquired at the University of Southampton easily allowed me to find a job as soon as I went back home to Azerbaijan after graduation, in one of the leading IT companies, AtaTechnology. I was working as a full-stack Web Developer applying my knowledge gained at the University in real-life projects.
Your few years at University are the most precious and privileged opportunity that you'll probably ever get. Use every moment of your time there to discover yourself and your potential.
I am quite sure that the knowledge and skills I have gained while studying at Southampton and the high employability of Southampton’s graduates will make me ready and fit for the next step of my journey.
